Welcome to the Hills

The Hills Shire commonly referred to as the Sydney Hills is located in Sydney’s northern suburbs about 30km from the Sydney CBD.  The Sydney Hills is bounded by Hawkesbury Shire in the north, Hornsby Shire in the east, Parramatta City in the south and Blacktown City in the west. The Sydney Hills occupies an area of 401 square kilometres stretching from Oatlands in the south to Wisemans Ferry in the north. The Shire is centrally located in Sydney’s North, adjacent to the M2 Hills, M7 Motorways, Sydney Metro Northwest (the first fully automated metro rail system in Australia) and North West growth centre, a major growth area for the Sydney basin. The Sydney Hills is not only great for business, it offers a lifestyle second to none. Just a short drive from the Sydney CBD, an excellent quality of life awaits with new and existing neighbourhoods boasting quality homes surrounded by open spaces, parks, gardens and bushland, in a safe, welcoming environment.  Homes in the Sydney Hills are highly sought after, with opportunities ranging from a new home in a planned neighbourhood, or apartment living in a town centre. It is one of the few areas of Sydney offering rural and semi-rural lifestyles a short distance from business parks and town centres.  The Hills District includes areas such as Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills, Bella Vista, West Pennant Hills, Winston Hills,  Glenhaven, Dural, Kellyville, Northmead, Rouse Hill, Beaumont Hills, and the upcoming Box Hill.

The Sydney Hills is a great place to raise a family with some of the State’s top schools on offer, including Baulkham Hills High, James Ruse Agricultural College, Hills Grammar, The Kings School and Tara – to name a few. Quality primary schools and child-care centres serve the region.

With the mighty Hawkesbury River on the doorstep, water sports, national parks, bushwalking and scenic picnic locations feature as key leisure activities. Nurseries, restaurants and cafes are popular spots for weekends.

Residents can select fresh produce at farmer’s markets or direct from the farm gate.  Premier shopping is on offer at Castle Towers – one of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest indoor shopping locations with Gold Class and Events Cinemas, while an open-air shopping experience is offered at the award-winning new Rouse Hill Town Centre.

The Sydney Hills is also home to significant heritage locations such as historic Bella Vista Farm Park, Wisemans Ferry and Castle Hill Heritage Park – where the scene of the Battle of Vinegar Hill took place.
