By Leanne Sanford

Amalgamation dumped but The Hills Shire will lose thousands of residents south of the M2.

The proposed merger between The Hills Shire and Hawkesbury City is off and the The Hills will lose several suburbs and thousands of residents south of the M2 to the newly redrawn Parramatta City Council.

  • On the move are 28,000 residents from North Rocks, Carlingford, Northmead, Winston Hills and a small section of Baulkham Hills despite numerous community petitions and submissions against the move.
  •  Rubbish collection services will still be conducted by Hills Shire Council as normal.
  •  Meetings are being held between the Hills Shire Council and Parramatta City Council over the transfer of assests and services to the value of $427 million.
  •  The ward system will be dissolved with all 12 councillors remaining until local government elections in September 2017.

Thank you to Hills Shire Times for this story.
